Exclamation Almost bar-b-qued my rover!!!Help me!!!

So i go out side today to crank up the rover and it started idleing funny .I smelled gas and poped the hood and what do i see??????My front left fuel injector leaking gas into a nice puddle on top of my engine. So i turned it off and now im asking you guys. What the hell would cause a fuel injector to leak? Its leaking out of the top of the injector and ive never really done injector work.Should i get a new one? Will i get sprayed in the face if i pull it off?Or does the pressure only happen when the truck is started.

Thanks for the help in advance and Im too poor right now to buy a service manual so if anyone has one be a sweetie and send me a pic of the page i need I know i know im a needy bitch

So please help me!!!!!

One thing I can tell you for sure, is that you won't get sprayed in the face with fuel if you remove it when the truck is completely shut off. The fuel pump engages on position 2.

Sorry Muddy but there is always pressure in the fuel system that's working properly. To de-pressurize pull the fuel pump relay and turn over the rover, then let it die out. Since your injector is leaking there probably isn't that much pressure left, but take the obvious precautions with a leak on the engine.

Not sure about your leak could be the injector or possible just the O ring.

There's a site were you can download some of the manual. Search this site and you should find the link.

Also buy a fire exstinguisher to keep in the truck. I have one mounted in front of the driver's seat.

Thank you much.It might just be an o ring i looked at it again and it seems if i just pop it out and replace the o rings it should be fine.Is there more than one o ring or is the one sealing it to the engine the only one?

Hmmm interesting. I;ve pulled injectors of on a Heep and I didn't get sprayed in the face. I got some coming out, but not for long.
Also on the D1, we inhooked the fuel lines and same thing.

So i got one fuel injector out.It did disturb the other 3 on the left side but i think i should be ok just carefully putting it back.Is there any trick to putting the injectors back in?
I did manage to do this without removing all the intake shit.I just unbolted the fuel rail and unseated one side and the injector came right out.The top o-ring is really loose on the inside so thats the culprit.Im going to replace the two o-rings on the injector itself and just put them all back.
Has anyone had a problem with changing one injector and putting it back together only to have the others you unseat start to leak?If it does ill obviously just remove all the intake stuff and do all of them but im really trying to avoid all that.

I had the same thing happen last winter. It was a extremely cold day that cooked mine. Somehow cracked the injector. I went with ford injectors from hmm *something*5.0. The actual swapout was fairly straight (with a repair manual) but it took me alot longer than it was written to take.

Going with ford injectors save me tons. If I remember right, all 8 (brand new without exchange needed) for 300. You do, however have to take alot off to get to the fuel rail.

I also found that if you trip the safety switch under the drivers seat (the one that trips in inpacts, don't remember what it is called) you can also depressureize the fuel lines. Same as the other way, trip it and crank until you empty the fuel line.

OK!!! so i got some free o-rings from my somewhat local Rover Dealer. They had a bunch of overhaul kits they broke up and had bits too so they gave them too me and also gave me some tips and sent me on my way.(Thank you North Point rover ) And after some drooling over a 80,000 Range Rover i went home.I put the 0-rings on none of them leaked when i pressurized the system.......except for the one i just did
So i guess its my actual injector leaking and not a o-ring issue. So im on the hunt for 1 thats right 1 injector cuz im poor and cant afford a whole set.A used one will do fine untill i can get new ones.Anyone know where i can get a used one?

If I was in the states, I could hook you up. My wife considers the tool part of the garage a no-woman land. I don't think I could explain to her where they are at.

I will ask her. If I can remember where they are at, haha.

Ok, I emailed her. We will just have to wait to see if she is willing to thread into the dreaded spare part land of the garage.

Fixed the leaky fuel injector It must have been leaking for a whil because now she runs like a champ.Higher idle smoother running and better throttle response than ever.Gotta thank Road Britannia for the cheap fuel injector. And thanks for the help on LRO
