Default alternator grief

95 lwb 115K miles

The regulator in my alternator failed. Again,, third time in 6 months. First time it was rebuilt by a competent shop and the regulator was replaced with the "book" recommended unit. It failed in a matter of days. The second time it was replaced with a higher rated unit. It lasted 6 months. Replaced it again yesterday. The alternator is a Marelli, the replacement regulators are a respected aftermarket brand "iforgotthename" .

Does anyone have any experience with this problem? How about replacing it with a domestic alternator? Any kits out there?

From my Rover Log.

"I order the alternator from NAPA with a lifetime warranty, five year free towing to a NAPA service center. If the alternator is the reason for the tow a new alternator and the tow are free. What the hell, I say, $290 bucks. Whatever I want the damn thing fixed."

Geneo,

I'm having the same problem (96 DI) with an alt I purchased from Atlantic British. I think I'm gonna throw in the towel and just get another Mean Green alt. I have a MG in my 95 DI and it's been working fine for the past 2 years.

Good luck.

John C, was your AB alt a new unit or a remanufactured one?

I just got a NEW 140amp alternator for $200 shipped from Will Tillery. They are sourced from Utah somewhere.
