Default Alternator suggestions?

My 3.9 alternator has given up the ghost. Any suggestions on correct ampherage? The one that died is a 60amp alternator which I think is quite low. Any issues in upgrading to a 100 amp without any mods?

No mods needed. Do you have a v-belt or a Serp belt?

Roverconnection has a 105 amp brand new, not rebuilt, unit for 170 bucks ,
there's also a Lucas certified rebuilder in Van Nuys who sells a high quality rebuild for 90 bucks his business is called C.A.E. here's his number (818) 442-9884 . he may have an 80 amp lucas unit. other wise magnetti marelli (denso) units are about 400 bucks.

Greatest thing I did to my V-belted RRC was use brackets off a buick 215 (Same engine, remember? ) So I could use a Delco 12CI alternator 100 amps of charging goodness. PLUS, they are Cheap, Realiable and can be bought at Walmart if needed.

Takes a little doing to prep the car though, but TOTALLY worth it.

IF you do it, remember a couple of things.

First, the belt is going to be different in lenth, same width, but you will have tio use a different belt.
Second. The battery cable fromt he alternator and the battery run under the spark plug wires. Totally stupid. Run a new thicker wire back around the engine on the firewall and connect to the battery. You will thank me for this.
Third, your tach signal comes from the alternator. If you are swapping it in the field, you can live without it. To make the tach work you will have to open the alternator and connect a wire to the diode pack for a alt signal. No biggie.

IN fact, some of the diesel alternators have this post already, but the diesel ones are rare and costly.

Corvair used an air-cooled flat 6, not a 215 v8.

No, its got brushes. But, so what. I got mine for a 84 GMC G-van with AC. 100 amps, $50, and avalible everywhere.

I got the alternator brackers from D&D. He sent em both sets, and I made one out of the two. Little drilling and a trip to the hardware store.
