Blanket under the hood - Land Rovers Only

Is the black insulation/fire blanket under the hood essential? Mine is detoriating and I want to toss it out. Can I do that without repercussions?

What does your paint look like on the bonnet? The blanket helps to protect the finish from heat damage. If you're not worried about that, you can toss it.

X2--- You wouldn't believe how hot your hood gets and if you remove that insulation theres a pretty good chance your paint will suffer.

sometimes engines(in general) can get so hot that not just the paint will burn off, but your hood can actually start to warp. Also, if the hood doesn't warp, the paint will begin to turn black(burnt) and just flake off. I've seen it a hundred times. I recommend replacing it. find a hood off of a totalled one or something and use it, you could probably pick it up for $25
