guys is ther any tricks to bleeding the brake system when the abs pump is dead?? i ain;t gonna replace the abs pump $$$!!! hard pedal is fine.
mechanic is installing 2 rear calipers tommorrow, hoping there are tricks to avoid lenghty "gravity bleeding" as he called it, udunna i'm a mechanical zero.
ummm if memory serves the brakes won't work period if that pump is dead....
You can bleed them all night long and it's still not going to stop.
I actually agree with Chris on the element being the truck for you or if you like upscale there's always the Escalade/denali

Yep hardly enough pressure to make the truck stop. Convert it to a vacuum pump and master cylinder. The hardest part was running the line to the rear I had to get a brake line flair tool and a tee. The whole conversion took about 2 hours. I have a power bleeder so that cut a lot of time out of it. It stops great now and no worries about my pump quiting. There a lot of people on here that have the parts at a good price.
well we could have nicely told him it was a bad idea. Then he would have bled the system and taken it for a test drive and parked it in a beauty saloon like that little old lady in AZ that mangled a perfect 25th anniv ed RRC.

I wanna know who this 'mechanic' is that thinks this is a good idea?
And why is he only concerned about the time it will take him to bleed the brakes!
He should be more concerned about who is going to sue his ass for incompetence.
Time to find a new shop, if you do not understand automotive technology then you need to find a TRUSTWORTHY person/shop that does.
Please, for Gods sake don't buy a element! Don't go from one of the all time greatest vehicle designs, every inch a Classic, to......er.......that. Your children will never forgive you.

i'll take the high road in MY reply. the abs pump has been dead for a long time. system works with out it, you just get a hard pedal, she stops moderately well. all i wanted to know is if there is a quick way to bleed the brakes without the benefit of the abs pump. If someone has experience please share
Army and Elemental...I understand where you're coming from....
Jones...I agree find a new mechanic. A RR is not your average SUV...and I'm NOT being snobby...It has some fairley complex and intertwined systems, and the removal of one little part from the system can and will have consequences. The RRC brake system is based on that electric pump, unlike say a Suburban that relies on a vaccum booster to assist your pedal pressure. (BTW, have you tried to stop a Suburban when the booster goes?...not fun)
So you drive it without the pump, your still talking about 2.5 to 3 tons rolling at 60mph with crap for braking power...not something I'd willingly sign on to, let alone place my family and friends into.

if the bidding on that get's out of hand pm Paul Grant on here. He usually has whatever part you might need to fix your Rover. Since he is usually dismantling 2-3 rovers at any given time. Good prices quick shipping and real easy to deal with for the parts you need.
Now Paul how about that 10% off coupon for my next part order lol Just kidding Paul took great care of me on a marker light recently. I have to applaud a good parts guy when I get the chance.

Pual Grant is your man, he has an ebay store, good prices, lots of free advice. He found an ignition switch for me and a how to replace.
I had the same abs pump issue, check the relay, i think they fail on but check it out before you replace the pump. Its under the drivers seat edge closest the door, just remove the seat support covers, two minutes with a philips screw driver and you will see:
blue relay-three fuses-black relay-black relay(this is the abs pump relay)-giant 30amp fuse. also check the fuses, could be something simple.
swap the two black relays and see if the pump runs, if it does auto zone actually had the relay, its not labled for a rover just take it in and see if they can match it.
I also would not recommend driving without the pump nor would I recommend buying an element unless your ready to turn in your manhood.
Actually I know a manly man that drives an element he's pretty smart to.
