Default Brake Calipers

Has anyone tried the Beck/Arnley calipers??? I'm need to replace my fronts and Advance Auto has a good price on these. I had planned on rebuilding mine, but I would feel safer with remanufactured ones.

Calipers are cheap and easy to repair. I would not bother with new ones.

For you or I, Ian, that may be so, but for the average guy who doesn't have a caliper hone, it's kind of pointless unless the yget ridd of the carbon steel pistons. When rebuilding them, I would always suggest replacing the pistons with stainless ones.
The flip side is that rebuilts are not alot more than the kits to do 4 piston calipers, when you factor in labor.

I get freshly rebuilt calipers for Range Rovers from a regional parts supplier, Levine's Automotive. Fronts are $79 and rears are $69 and they use the OEM AP Lockheed calipers. At that price, with a one year replacement warranty, why bother with the time and expense of rebuilding.

That was what I was thinking. $50 for rebuild kit + time factored with never have done it before or $106 for rebuilt ones with a one year warranty.

But back to the main question... are Beck/Arnley decent quality calipers??? Or would Prolines from RN be a better investment at $149?

I think the ProLines come with pads, hence the added expense. If that is the case, I would go with the ProLines unless you already have pads.

There is nothing wrong with the Beck/Arnley rebuilds. You'll probably find that they use the Lockheed caliper assemblies anyway. Back in the '70's BAP was a national chain but their retail end probably got devoured by CarQuest or someone similar.
