Default Btdc

I've read 2 different threads here regarding how to use TDC/BTDC when installing a dizzy.

1. Distributor install & Timing?

2. dizzy placement

In the 1st example P76rangie instructs a value of 10BTDC when placing dizzy.
In the 2nd example Divied245 claims that a value of zero is ones target when placing dizzy.

Anyone else have information on this critical issue?

Snag this and you will answer your own question without the need to start a flame war; Rave Disc 3 http://green-oval.com/joomla/index.p...id=8&Itemid=29

Good luck.

They are both right. You install the dizzy at TDC, then statically set it to 6º BTDC and then use your timing light to fine tune which may put you around 10º. Then test driving it to ensure no pinging.

That was an old post by me. A motor will run fine to start with a fair amount of advance timing. It will be difficult to start and will run like shit if you manage to set it near TDC or ATDC. So err on the side of having it too advanced, at least you will get it started and can then set it properly with a timing light.

Yes the manuals talk about finding TDC and putting in the distributor, but on an electronic distributor it is difficult to static time the thing. So you are better off moving the crank to around 10 to 15 BTDC and then just pointing the rotor button straight at number 1 lead.

Thanks for that. Installed dizzy at 10btdc and probably should remove and try 15btdc. Maybe that way I'll be able to get the vac unit half way between thermo housing and h20pump casing. And thanks for the iso link too.
