There are many Rover owners who have experimented with adapting a GM HEI style distributor with only modest success.

There is one company, Davis Unified Ignition (DUI) that was quite the rage a year or two ago with claims of having fit "thousands" to Range Rovers. Rovers North was going to sell them and Atlantic British had them available on their website but DUI seem to have fallen off the map of late.

I bought one for my 1985 RRC and it simply did not fit without performing major surgery on the intake manifold. Google their name and you'll come up with thier website. Be forwarned, the distributors are not cheap and I still am not confident that they have really solved thier issues.

An alternative is to go with a Mallory Unilite. That's what I did and I am very satisfied. A simple call to Summit Racing and the deal was done. It was a nice improvement over the Rover unit. Keep in mid that comparing a 20 year old distributor to a brand new one off the shelf is not really comparing apples to apples. A word of advice though, I travel with a spare module, cap and rotor because the Mallory bits aren't usually available at your local parts shop.

Finally, I have read about a number of people experimenting with MSD units as well. I think you can find some information on rangerovers.net about using an MSD. An MSD set up might work out for you and also inable you to collect the bits you need by stopping into the local Auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts store.
