Default Which Catco catalytic converter?

I am about to order replacement cats, as mine are making a horrendous rattle, but wanted to know which length people have ordered in the past.

http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...ch&DDS=1&N=115

Are the correct cats the 12.75" or 14" lengths?

TIA!

Hi Harold,
I usually recommend the shorter ones for OBDII trucks. It leaves enough room for the O2 bungs in front and behind the cat. When it comes to an OBDI truck you can get away with either. Don't worry that the originals are two different shapes. The Catco's will fit either side.
Cheers,
Paul

Thanks Paul! That was the info I was looking for, so the 12.75"s it is then.

On an unrelated note, I am kicking myself for not buying your upper tailgate. Literally the day after you had it sold, my latch started not locking! Talk abut timing! Next time you've got an upper rear hatch, please keep me in mind.

Wait..... is our truck OBD1 or OBD2?

I know that BMW's changed over to OBD2 is '96. What is my '95 RRC?

I would think obd 1. I have a 91 so def obd1. Also i heard Catcos are a waste of time. Sometimes rovers can eat cats more quickly than other vehicles. they run fairly rich. If you really need cheap cats get the catcos. But i was told by an exhaust proffesional not to waste my time becaue the failure rate is so high w/catcos. Get some high flow cats and they will practically be lifetime for a few more bucks.

I'm pretty sure RRCs are OBDI. 1996+ cars are OBDIIs.

on another note. When should Cats be replaced? Also, any reason to put a high-flow performance Catalytic converter on a rover versus a basic factory/aftermarket equivalent replacement?

All Range Rover Classics that used 14CUX EFI systems were OBDI. There were no OBDII Range Rover Classics. All GEMS and Bosch EFI systems, commonly found in DI's and all P38a's, are OBDII.

Now, regarding the Catco's, I have had a set for years and plenty of other Rover owners have used them for years as well. The assertion, by your expert, of high failure rates among the Catco cats is a first for me. I won't argue that a high flow cat is a better choice but it is also a more expensive choice, one some would prefer not to make. I think I bought the Catco's I have for $35 each on eBay back in 2003.

Just ordered a pair of the Catco 6905. I'm looking for a competent exhaust shop in Portland, ME. There are plenty of Midas' and such, I'll just have to ask around and see which shop is recommended.

The local Meineke installed the Catcos and they fit. It took longer than expected, the Y-pipe started to split at the weld near the header flange so they needed to repair that as well.

It seems like the exhaust is louder than before, maybe because the new cats are not as dense or I'm just getting old and forgetful.
