Default causes of hesitation???

I have slight hesitation when taking off from a light or when cruising along and have to accelerate to pass someone.

would it more likely be electrical (plugs,wires,cap/rotor,coil,etc)
or fuel (fuel filter,bad gas,etc)

ive ran a bottle of seafoam in the tank but to no avail.

i just wanna make sure it isnt a driveline problem, bad diffs, driveshaft problems etc.

thanks

Have you cleaned your air idler valve?
Start simple, work up from there.

As you are experiencing the hesitation at take off and when you need to overtake, it would seem the throttle position sensor is at fault.

Dominick, what year and milage?
Have you done a tune-up? Did you make any changes lately? Give more history on the vehicle. It could be something as simple as bad gasoline or something alot complicated. As Okie said, start simple, don't drive yourself nuts!

check the plugs, wires, cap and fuel filter.
u say you used seafoam. if u used it through the induction system u should check all 3 hoses that run from the pvc filter to the tee piece. also check to see if the tee piece cracked, they will crack and fill up w/ carb. my rrc and my dad rrc tee piece was cracked and we got new ones. u can get them at british pacific for $17.00 which is a great deal (Altantic brit it cost $38 or so!!!)
also check your pvc filter

It is a 1990 RRC with 136,000 miles. What happened was that i was low on gas maybe about 1.5 weeks ago, so i filled up a 5 gallon gas tank i borrowed from my friend and proceeded to fill my tank with that.

thats why i think it may have been a dirty gas can with other crap in there like chemicals and what not. thats why i think its bad/dirty gas

but i had a smaller spare tire on and changed that to my normal size tire a day before i had to use that possibly bad gas. i heard on here that its bad to use a different size tire from the rest. so being an older car i dont know the condition of the diffs and other parts, thats why i may think that its driveline.

but i will try all your other advice so i can get back on the trails.

Now we are getting somewhere.
Have you filled up your tank since?? One of the problems with running out of gas with older vehicles is that the deposits accumulating at the bottom of the gas tank gets pumped out with the last ounce of gasoline. You might just need to change your gas filter.

Occam's Razor.
Before you change your fuel filter, hose off the area to knock the dirt and debris away. You'll thank me or wish you'd done that, the first time you bang your wrench in there and get a face full of dirt.

i think i had a CEL a year ago once and im pretty sure it was the TPS, but i cant remember, that or something that was a potentiometer (sp?).

But it came on when i was cruising on the highway and i stepped on it, it felt like i hit a rev limiter but was barely over 3k. and then the CEL came on.

what are the chances my cats are clogged, cuz even tho i dont really rev this thing passed 3.5k ive never seen it passed it even when the car downshifts and i wanna pick up speed. but thats another issue.

every true! if u change your fuel filter and after u fill the tank u should add a bottle of fuel cleaner into the system. i like lucas brand, but there is alot of good products out there.
check your spark plug, cap and etc to see if they r in good shape. like my dads says "check everything over on a rover, it could be alot of little things adding up to 1 major issue". some like that he says.

one other thing, it might b hard to get the bolts off the filter (rust). u might have to cut both ends off like on both my dad's and my rrc. http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/8989.cfm
this is one, u can get parts and make your own kit.
