Default Center Muffler Problem

The center muffler has developed a hole in the TOP of the muffler (92 Rover Classic). The muffler was new in Feb.04 Atlantic British standard exhaust. The check engine light came on immediately before the muffler hole become evident. The real problem is the carpet pad behind the center console melts on longer trips. I really don't want to burn up the Rover. Heres the question: Other than a faulty manufactured muffler, what could cause the top hole(no off roading) also should there be some type of exhaust shield to protect the interior floor. Could a cat.converter be plugged? The Rover is running OK , a bit loud though.Atlantic British insists the muffler has a life time warranty, new one on the way.

Default did they mount the muff upside down?

there is supposed to be a teeny tiny hole in those muffs to let out moisture.

if it was mounted upside down.. eek.

Must have been mounted upside down.
Drat!
If your heat problem persists you can ask the muffler shop or do it yourself, to put an asbestos shield between the muffler and the body. Also a shield could be fitted if necessary.
