Today was the day that the pump, pumped no more. I ordered coils from Rovers North> I told Mike that I use my truck as a daily driver, and do a limited amount of off road, but some all the same. He sold me the O.E. coils and told me that the ride height would be in the middle of standard and off road. I really wanted to have more lift, but he explained that the ride would be considerably stiffer. Do you think that I will be dissapointed with the results?

I have the same springs on a '95 RRC and I like them. The RN "kit" is basically Disco rear spings, with Defender fronts. My truck is mostly an on-road beast, but I have put BIG BLUE springs(both std and 3" lift) on other RR's and they where stiffer. And the ride height of the STD Big Blue and the OE coils is very very close.
I would recommend getting better shocks if you haven't already done so. I've used many different types(blistein, OME, etc), but I'll tell you for the $ you can't beat Pro-Comp Es9000. I think they were like $165(shipped) for all 4from SUMMIT Racing. I've kicked the snot out of these shocks and never had a problem(on or off road). If you need the part numbers, PM me. I think you will be in good shape with the OE coils. |

Honestly no I don't think so. There is always that heated debate on spring rate and brand of shocks you get, but one thing I think is, that because they are not HD lift springs (ie. Rovertym 2" lift springs), you're ride will be pretty superb. What kinda shocks you running?

Thanks for the reassurance guys. As far as I know the truck still has O.E. shocks. When I asked Rovers North, he said that if they arent leaking dont replace them. Being that a sales guy was actually telling me not to buy, I took stock in his advice, but now I am thinking of ordering new, and having it done while the truck is torn down for the conversion. I guess it just makes sense to take advantage of the situation, and get r done> I am going to the summitt site now........

I have OME HD shocks and springs on my 92' that i'm about to sell to go taller, they ride better than stock so don't listen to roversnorth. I mean ya they sell some nice stuff but they did copy badger coachworks soft top and claim it to be theirs

Just my 2 cents, but there is a HUGE difference in OE Hydro Woodhead shocks compared to just about anything nitro gas(bilstein, pro comp, etc). The ride of a RRC improves a ton with a gas shock! The lumbering, waste of energy side-to-side motion is almost gone. But, you still retain a smooth ride(it is a ROVER after all...LOL). I know the "feeling" of a shock upgrade is very subjective, but IMHO swapping shocks is one of the best things you can do to a ROVER.
Are you having a shop do the conversion? I'd love to know what someone would charge to do this job. I've done so many, maybe I'm in the wrong business. ![]() |

The parts I ordered myself, coils including a steering damper+shipping 500 bucks, and the shops labor will be about 500 bucks. That estimate included replacment of the shocks. So I get the feeling I neede to order a round of gas shocks.

Personally, go with a gas shock. I found the Pro-comp es9000 part numbers:
Front: 921560 Rear: 921573 Boots: ? I order these from Summit Racing(about $165 shipped with boots), but just a heads-up if you go this route call Pro-Comp(800.776.0767) and order the larger bushing kit: P-1029 (you need 6). If I remember they were like $10 (for 6) and they fit the cups MUCH better. If you are thinking of getting these from RoversNorth, ask them if the shocks come with the larger bushings. I know someone who bought them from RN and the shocks came with the wrong size. ![]() It's too bad that you can't do this job yourself. $500 is OK, but man this job is as dumb as dirt to do(especially the shocks). But if it's a lack of tools, etc. your stuck. Good Luck! |

We had 3 Pro Comp shocks range from major leak to explode... not bad for only 8 being there to begin with. I think the issue was the welds and the metal thickness in the body of the shock.
Not the first time I've heard this. I've always loved Bilstein. 7100's on the rig now. If I were you I'd call Bill at Great Basin Rovers and discuss your suspension needs.

I just got my truck back from the shop that did my coil spring conversion. I am very satisfied! It drives sooo nice now, and the lift is just right-not too much> Thanks to all for all the great advice. Also, the shop charged me 360 bucks to do the conversion, steering damper and removing the front air dam. Very reasonable in my opinion.
Cheers! |

Call for best results. I had a 1995 RRC swb (OME MD, Bilstein for EAS shocks, 235/85r16 MT/R) then sold after I bought a larger 1992 RR1 that does everything well. Sorry for the late reply.
