My 1995 LWB is having the stumbling/hesitation/low power issues that many associate with the ignition amplifier or fuel pump, but I'm not convinced. The truck was running flawlessly until it started bucking/surging at high speed (55MPH and over), never under power at low speed. I learned to live with it since I only use it to pull a boat, but now it's something else.
It starts right up after sitting overnight but it has a rough idle and a miss, and a raw fuel smell while it warms up. It runs, but the idle is lumpy and power under throttle is lacking. It will run this way forever, but everything changes when I turn it off. When I start it the next time, the idle is silky smooth and all 200+ ponies are back; unfortunately so is the high-speed surging. The fuel pump is a likely culprit, but it's working, right? It doesn't buzz when the ignition is keyed to the ON position, though... Is it a temp sensor, or plug wires.? It seems temperature related, but in reverse; it warms up and things get better, which rules out the ignition module and the fuel pump... This post could go on forever, but you get the idea. Any help? Rick |

No codes under the passenger seat; of course I'm assuming the display is working! I read that failing alternators can cause issues, but mine seems to be a reman unit replaced by the PO not too long ago. The fuel filter, plug wires, cap, rotor and spark plugs all were replaced less than 10K miles ago as well.

i chased what seems to be the same problem for almost a year i replaced everything from the fuel pump to the injectors to the distributor and three ignition modules. i mean just about everything. one day it would work great, the next day not so much. as a last resort i tried a MSD ignition system it has worked flawlessly since. i dont know what the deal was but the stock igniton system just didnt cut it for me. now im not saying it will fix your problem but something to think about...

Well, after much searching I found one questionable spark plug wire. The spark plug connector looked sooty, so $40 later, my Rover is 100% better. Problem gone. It's always the simple things that drive you insane.
Now if I could only figure out why my radio, passenger seat and dome lights won't work... Rick |

I have the same situation with my 95 RRC Swb, replaced alt., MAF-(Thanks to Paul Grant), and continue to have the same issue. My codes read that my O2 sensors are trouble. code 45. I ruled out the MAF by default. I did adust the idle by turning the fine threaded adjustment from the accelerator cable to the mounting bracket at the throttle body assembly and has stopped the issue_ but I am afraid I am burning alot of gas and in the long run wont be good for my rangie.......maybe fuel pump??
