Default Which diesel?

Which diesel motor did Land Rover ship in the Range Rover Classic in the 90s?
I know they didn't ship any to America, but surely they shipped them to other parts of the world.

RRC diesels went in this order; VM (think it was a 2.4, converted from a marine engine to fit the RR), 200tdi and then 300tdi. Don't think anything BMW went in to a RRC, only the P38s.

Only 1/2 the story, sorry people, here is the rest of the RRC diesel history;

Quote:
Diesel Engines
Diesel engines were introduced as an option for the Range Rover in April 1986. The first diesel engine fitted was the (Italian) VM 2400 4-cyl, which was turbocharged and intercooled for the Range Rover application. This is essentially the same engine as fitted to the Rover SD1 saloon from 1982 onwards, except that the slightly lower powered SD1 engine was not fitted with an intercooler. In October 1989, the 2400 TD engine was replaced by the 2500TD, which is a longer stroke version of its predecessor. Vehicles fitted with VM turbo diesel engines were only available with manual transmission. In November 1992, the VM 2500TD engine was replaced by Land Rover's own diesel unit, the 200Tdi, which was already fitted to the Discovery and Defender. In March 1994, the 200Tdi was replaced by the 300Tdi. Like the VM engines, the 200 & 300Tdi are (2500cc) 4-cyl turbocharged and intercooled diesels. Unlike the Italian diesels, however, they are direct injection engines. Only the 300Tdi was available from Land Rover with automatic transmission.

Engine Identification;

2400 TD VM engines begin 11A, followed by a serial no.
2500TD VM engines begin 95A, followed by a serial no.
200Tdi engines begin 41L, with a serial no.
300Tdi engines begin with one of the following :- 17L, 18L, 19L, 20L, 21L or 22L depending on engine & transmission type, followed by a serial no.
Well there you go!

Thanks so much for that.
Not that I could afford a 300TDI but at least I know which one is proper.

Hey Okie,
The Australian market had the Isuzu 4bd1 or 4bd1T mated to I think Chrysler 727. From what I read over on outerlimits4x4 it seem to be only available in that market. Dougal over on 4btswaps.com has a lot of info on diesel Rovers.

Cool site you got there.
