Default Diesel conversions

which diesel conversion is the easiest or most straight forward for the Range rover classic? to go with with the ZF auto gearbox or the LT77 5 speed. if you have any info regarding power specs, adapter availibility, rover or non-rover, etc... just trying to see what my options are.

also anyone have any info for using the toyota 3B diesel in a rover?

cheers,
Reza

Rovers North has a 300TDi for sale on their website. It would be ideal for yout application. You might need to find the proper bellhousing as most LT77's, R380's or even ZF's on this side of the pond with be set up for a V8.

thats one option thanks,

looking for other options as well.

especially anything on the toyota 3b as i have access to like 3 of them here for next to the cost of a couple of cases of beer. just looking for info. in this area toyotas seem to be plenty so would make a feasable option for parts and service and replacement at a cheap cost even if initial cost is slightly higher but i doubt it.

I have had many RR diesel conversions undoubtedly the 3.5l TDi mazda (built by Perkins diesels) is the best one I have encounted and conversions are available for both zf4 spd auto and the lt77 manual boxes really awesome machine high revving and takes on the V8 for power with twice the MPG,

avoid chevy 6.2s had one last year in my Range rover utter junk (sorry to any chevy fans).

other good ones are 2.8 and 3.1 Isuzu TDis

nissan 3.3l 6 cylinders are nice (watch for rear crank seal failure hard to get and very very expensive).

cheaper options are perkins 4.182 3l baby to the 3.5 TDi,

perkins 4236 3.8l n/a or turbo a little agricultural but utterly bomb proof and pretty good on fuel for an old engine design,

really the minimum requirement is nothing smaller than a 3 litre turbo charged or 3.5 n/a

Look into what conversions are available before choosing an engine, trying to make an engine fit because its cheap usually cost more time and money.

thanks for the info, basically it is down to the cost issue, most of the engines you mentioned cost a bit here so it may not be feasable and with those costs i may as well just drop in the rover diesel. just trying to reinvent the wheel here for western canada. i have good access to machine shop tools and water jets so i can make the adapters for a reasonable cost.
cheers,
Reza
