That is really a good idea. You might make sure you have a magnetic plug just to be able to see if any thing unusual is going on.
As for Dii changes, depending on the type of water crossing you might do and the type of venting you might have, once a year, once every 6 months. I do my once a tear and I have been doing some swimming here in Colorado since I moved back.
