Default Disco 1 tranny and RR tranny

I am trying to figure out if these two vehicles have the same gearbox.
1994 discovery with LT230 transfercase.
1990 Range Rover with Borg Warner T-case.

is there any difference between these two transmissions?? is the output shafts the same, will they mate up with a straight swap. i need to put the RRC tranny into the Disco. just the tranny not the transfercase, the transfercase will remain LT230.

cheers,
Reza

The transmission is the same, a ZF HP22. I think you should have no problem mating the RRC ZF to the Disco LT230. It wasn't until mid year '96 that there were changes made to the LT230 that would make it slightly more problematic to fit to the older ZF. There was a similar thread about this on Dweb a couple of weeks ago.

As Paul indicated yes it will fit.

The output shaft is different on a 96 and up but you can purchase the correct shaft if necessary.

I installed a tranny from a 91 RR onto my 95 DI and it fit just fine.
