I am about to take out the distributor on the 1990 RRc. How do you ensure that it is in the correct position when re-installing? Is it keyed so that it only can be put in with the rotor timed correctly?
Thanks, Rob Turbett |

You need to mark the distributor and the housing with a scratch pen at the point where they meet. I used a felt tip and then scratched into that with a scratch pen, to make the scratch stand out better. There's no key as you need to be able to turn it to adjust the timing. Make sure to also mark the rotor position on the transparent cover with a felt tip pen or paint or something.

The rotor will turn counter clockwise as you remove the distributor. To get it back to the same place you started, you will have to align the rotor to the same distance to the left and allow it to turn clockwise as it engages. Make sure the distributor base sits all the way down before clamping it. James |
