so i have had my 1994 RRC LWB for almost a year. it has 170,000 miles on it and i have spend around $800 in maintenance and repairs the past year...my mom wants me to sell it because she thinks i am spending too much money on it...she wants me 2 sell it and get a 2004 nissan xterra...iv tried telling her that $800 a year for a car 12 years old is not bad at all and that it is cheaper maintenance since i can do most repairs myself, i also tried telling her that when a new car has a problem it usually has 2 be fixed thru the dealership and that costs alot of money!!! can anybody give me some arguments as to why i should get 2 keep my rover??
please help me out guys! i dont wanna have 2 sell my rover!
thanks

OH! and you can also tell her that rovers get better crash ratings then the X's do because of the materials the cars are made out of. (I read that somewhere in a 4x4ing mag)

Tell her it will be more expensive to fix the Xterra if something breaks. At least with the LR you have a bunch of BBS and folks that will be able to give you a hand or advice. Tell her the center of gravity is lower on the RR than the Xterra and that the X is more likely to rollover.
Tell her the body is alluminum and that it will not rust (just don't mention the bodyshell and liftgate and hood and...)
Tell her you found a great source for aftermarket parts at half the cost of the Nissan parts.
Tell her you'll get laid driving around in the RR

Plus trying to lift that small Nissan will be like trying to do heart surgery to a tick, it is hard. Solid axles and coils, easy. Front IFS setup with CV half shafts that can break, hard!! IMO.

My sister has an X-terra....Good little rig..Lots of fun....but as far as cost goes....... You will do $800 a year without blinking....also...if you four wheel a lot you will have more problems if it is technical........ The rover doesn't get the best MPG's but lets be honest..it's a 4x4...You knew that!!!! The rover is far safer...more comfortable.....and SLOWER......tell her you will be more likely to drive fast in the X..LMAO!!! Honestly if you really like it she will let you keep it...at least that is how it seems!!

The Xterra is a newer vehicle. It probably won't break for a long time. Considering its only two years old, you can still buy an extended warranty. It will probably get you back and forth to school w/ no problems.
So, that's the practical part of the brain. BUT we all know that rover owners are not practical people. If we were, we would not drive rovers.
The cost issue is irrelevant. Unless you have 20K burning a hole in your (or your parents) pocket, you will probably finance it, which means it will cost $350 per month for the next 5 - 6 years. And if money is no object, then it really doesn't matter how much the rover costs in maintenance. Plus, by the time you pay it off you'll have a 7 year old truck with 100 + miles that has depreciated to the point where its only going to be worth $5k - $6K. Your Rover is not going to depreciate any further i can promise you.
Besides, the ultimate agruement is - it not a Range Rover!
