Default Dome Light problem

my dome lights used to go on everytime i open the door. lately, i noticed that it does not light up anymore when i go in and out of the car. however, it lights up if i manually switch it on.

I would guess that the door plunger switch has gone bad, or lost its ground.

i think i'd still check the ground on each door plunger switch. there could be a short on one of them that is causing the problem - all the door circuits would converge before integrating with the switch. unscrew the plunger switch, disocnnect switch from wire, use steel wool to scrub the metal of the switch, the wiring connector, and the screw which attaches the switch to the door frame, which is part of making the ground connection.

if that doesnt fix it, check wiring diagram for your year - maybe there is a relay involved. there is also something which controls the lighting time delay.

The problem is most likely in the delay module, which is located below the dash to the left of the steering wheel. It's pretty common on classics. Paul Grant probably has a few.

On a 1995 the light delay function may be provided by the Multi Functioin Unit. the electrical diagram does not show a separate delay relay as in the model years up to 1994. new one is 125 at Atlantic British if a used one is not available. see pic below. location is underneath left front dashboard 'fascia.'
