Default door lock troubles

I recently put a new aftermarket door lock system in my 1995 lwb but i has problems which the rods and locking mechanisms. The rods dont really line up right on the front doors. The actuators match the OEM ones that where previously in there. The drivers door the rod that connects to the actuator is really short and the lock/unlock is backwards. On the passenger side door the actuator pushes the rod and the button moves but the button doesnt quite go high enough. It's like less than a cm away. I don't think its the actuator because it cannot push any furthor. Does anyone have any ideas on what may be wrong or how to fix it? Also any tips on how to get a better look at the rods or how they may have gotten this way. Thanks in advance.

Having changed every actuator on my 89 SWB myself along with a remote start, here goes.
First, have you moved the plate that holds the actuator as far over as you can? If so, you will have to make new holes on the plate that the actuator is mounted. this will give you the required distance needed to throw the latching mechanism. Nothing crazy just aboud a 1/2".You want to give the actuator a good clearance to work.
Secondly, i dont know what kind of actuator your installing but if its generic it will have a small can on it and look like a little blue pistol. These can be a pain. But you can do it. The wires should be blue and green, reverse them and you will have the correct Lock/Unlock. If it is the same wiring I beleive it
was the factory pink to blue and orange to green(sorry its been a while). These factory wires can be accessed in the drivers kick panel as well.

Hope This Helps.Good luck.
