Default Dual battery setups for 89 classic

I am looking for dual battery ideas for my 89 classic. I need the setup for my ham radios, gps, and other goodies. Anyone wish to share?

What do you want to know. Where to put the battery, how to wire it up, etc.

The second battery is normally put in the same location (but on the opposite side) as your existing battery. Try and keep the batteries the same if possible. Run a volatage sensitive relay on the charge line to the second battery and that is about it. If you want the ability to get the power back out of the seconf battery if the main goes flat, you can get a solenoid similar to that on a winch and run a heavy wire through the solenoid back to the main battery. Otherwise you just use jumper leads on the small likelihood that you will ever need to do it. A 100 amp voltage sensitive relay should be around $100. 100 amp is more than enough as it is to only charge the second battery and that battery would never pull 100 amps.

Check out the RV stores. They run duals for many reasons. Marine stores have supplies too.

I've looked at a Heavy duty switch for $30 that has positions for OFF, ONE, TWO, and BOTH referring to the batterys. And I looked at an Isolator for $129 that automates the task of keeping the main cranking battery always ready and dual charging as needed.

The marine guy referred me to the RV guys, he thought they'd be more knowledgeable with Automotive apps.
