Error Code 48/ Symptoms of a dying alternator - Land Rovers Only

So, just got the truck back from the shop(edit) after giving up on getting running right once the new head gaskets were on. They think that the problem is low compression but I think that must have something to do with it sitting so long. They told me that the compression of the right bank was 60-65 lbs which I find hard to believe considering I was getting 18-20 mpg at highway speeds. They didn't check the other bank. They replaced the plug wires and IAC unit but it seems to me to be running the same as when I took it in. Which is basically fine under throttle and very rough (missing and surging) at partial throttle only to die when you come to a stop. It really seems to me something electrical. On the way home from the shop the check engine light came on. It is "#48 Battery supply voltage - low". So my question is if my alternator was in the process of dying would this cause the other issues? Before I replaced the head gaskets I started having the same symptoms but not to such a degree.

A dying alternator I have found can cause all kinds of odd symptoms in the Rovers. So it honestly wouldn't surprise me if that had something to do with it. It's easy to pull out and have tested most places will test it for free i.e. napa autozone pep boys etc so it's certainly worth a try.

code 48 is the stepper motor if that is what u mean by #48.
