Default expansion tank leak, 95 classic

i came out of the store this afternoon, and noticed a long trail of coolant that had leaked from my 1995 classic.

i traced the leak to the seam on the back of the coolant expansion tank.

has anyone every done a successful repair on one? if, could you tell me how, and what materials you used?

or-- a source for a FAIR priced replacement.

many thanks, bargecapt

I remember the black tanks were prone to leaking. Get a whitish one from Rovers North.

Any fixes are temporary to get off the trail, as far as I've seen.

HI Oscar, I got your email. As Thor said above, the black tanks have a definite lifespan. I only have black ones at the moment. If you want one I can send it along for $25 including shipping but be forwarned that they are prone to sudden self destruction. I think the newer white ones are less than $75 new. You might want to go that route. If not, let me know and I can send you one of these black ones.

Did you find out anymore about the accumulator?
Cheers,
Paul

I have seen plastic rad's repaired useing a plastic weld (no, not JB weld) but I can't say I was very impressed. If a new improved unit is only $75 I would go that route.

Yeah, don't waste your time or money trying to repair, just buy a new one - roverconnection.com used to have good prices on them, or any of the online vendors (I think I got mine from British Pacific on the daily special). Its not worth ruining a motor or even just ruining a trip over a failed repair attempt.

Oscar, I just saw the BP Deal of the Day and immediately thought of you but Is see I was too late. Sometimes it pays to wait! It's almost like BP was reading this thread!

I get them every once in awhile. I sold a nice set back in late March. Right now I have a set of Tornado wheels in excellent shape. They're the ones that came on all US D90's. They're nice on RRC's but my favorite wheel on a Classic is the TWR. I haven't had a nice set of those in about a year. They came on the 25th Anniversary RRC in Aspen Silver and all the SWB RRC's wEAS.

If I come across a set of nice Cyclones for a '95 I'll let you know. I'm sure you know that the wheels on the '94 LWB were darker than the ones on the '95.
