Front bumper

Good morning,

I am attempting to remove the plastic valence from my rover today, and it looks like to do what I need to doo in terms of adding aux. lights to the top side of the chrome bumper, that I Need to remove tha bumper as well. I also have a factory brush guard installed. My question is, will the brush guard come off with the bumper, or is it mounted to the frame rails as well?

on my 93 i have to take off the brush guard first then the bumper. the LR factory brush guard on my rrc has 4 bolts that hold the guard to the frame.

When I bought my 1995 RRC I removed the Genuine brush guard, replaced the crush can covers (black things on the front of the bumper) and installed the lights. Then in Telluride I cracked the air dam (valence) so I bought an ARB and replaced the entire bumper.

Plastic valence 4-6 bolts captured nuts can be hard to free because the can turn in the plastic they are 'captured in' but easy to get off. Only remove the valence if you are leaving it off? Some never go back on (mine did, but be warned).

Brush guard comes off after you remove the bumper bolt's nuts, THEN back the bolt out just enough to get the guard off but keep the bumper in place if you don't want the bumper off.

Then put some masking tape on the bumper around where you want the holds drilled for the lights. Measure to make them even TWICE! I did it on the vehicle to keep the bumper steady and to make sure the lights would fit. I did Hella 3000's so I notched the grille with a dremmel until they aimed perfectly.

BUT BEFORE YOU GO TO ALL THIS TROUBLE. make sure you don't want an aftermarket bumper. I went to an ARB 6-8 months after doing this project. But I was still able to pay for the ARB with my eBay sale of the rare air bag chrome front bumper.

Shold be a one person job as long as you don't remove the bumper bolts all the way. Just be careful, the brush guard is heavy!

u have a 95? i forgot about the airbag system. r u taking off your guard for good? if so u can get some good money for the air bag guards. they r pricy new and like thor was saying about the bump to.

was planning on keeping the bumper, just getting rid of the plastic valence. The bumper has holes drilled in to it already, and the brush guard has corresponding holes. Problem is , i cant get behind the bumper to put the nuts on the aux. lights I have.

I don't remember anything back there to stop me. I have mine off and I did it alone. The ends are simply bolted to the skin. And the lamps were bolted to the bottom of the bumper if I remember correctly on my 93.

The single hole is a bolt for the bracket that mounts the lamps to the bracket that is fixed to the airdam in this picture.

So you can take the lamps out of the airdam and mount them if you want to some where else.

I just went down to the salvage yard and got some "water proof" connectors off a chevy truck and wired them in so I could quick disconnect if I wanted to keep my airdam on or remove it. You can see one of them dangling in the first pic.
