Default Front seal rear diff.(92 Classic)

Well it took me about a week of driving ( 300 miles?) to figure this one out. I thought I was hearing brake pad noise because the timbre of this sound changes when braking. Also when the tranny downshifts to first gear I hear a grinding noise( I know not good) , again this noise was associated with final braking, the last ten feet before the car stops the grinding happens. I noticed what I now realize are oil stains on thr rear tailgate. Upon visual inpection the rear diff. has a couple of drips of gear oil hanging on the housing and it looks like it is coming from the front diff. oil seal. Is the front seal tough to replace? Should the u-joint be replaced because the drive shaft is down anyway?? And of course lets hope everything is Quiet once the diff. is refilled with the proper amount of gear oil. THANKS in advance!!

As far as "should I replace?"
I don't like working on things more than once. If I had it down I would replace it.
