Default Frozen High/Low Shifter

I have a 91 Range Rover Hunter with an utterly stuck High/Low shifter. After trying the suggested method of engaging low range via the manual and the sticker on the fuse box, I'm slowly grasping the conclusion it's a mechanical problem. I'm a little gun shy about putting full pressure on the shifter as I don't want to break it any more than it already is (if it is at all). Here are a couple of the theories I've gleaned so far from the forums and the like:

1.) The lever itself needs to be greased.

2.) The transfer case needs to be drained and re-lubricated.

3.) A solenoid preventing Low Range from being engaged at high speeds is stuck engaged.

I'm more than game to correct 1 and 2, though the prospect of 3 is pretty scary to an entry level owner like myself. Are there any other suggestions you guys can think of?

ok jon go drive to some dry tar crawl under your truck with your favorite brand of penatrating oil.....right next to the muffler on the tcase you will see the cable that shifts the tcase from high to low....spray where that cable/linkage goes into the tcase...now wait have some patience..and for the next couple day just pull and push on the shifter a couple times a day till u fell it move for the first time... then once it starts to move your golden... make sure your in park or neutral when you try to move it ... once it moves just keep working it back and forth and it will free up.... dont be affraid to give it a good amount of effort to move it..... good luck Don

Worked like a charm. You're aces, Mr. Divide, strictly aces.
