Default Fuel Economy

I recently changed my spark plugs on my 95 County Classic and noticed a little more carbon/burnt fuel? on some of the plugs. I am trying to track my fuel economy to see if it's a more significant issue.

Does anyone know the fuel capacity of the fuel tank? I got a new tank installed due to the recall, which I don't think makes a difference?

I was also wondering if anyone knew how much gas is remaining in the tank once the fuel light turns on?

I am averaging about 10 miles per gallon which seems pretty low. I am known to drive a little fast, and those san francisco hills probably play a part, but was wondering if other people are averaging much higher numbers? Thanks

Yes the city by the bay's hills will take a toll on those MPG's.

Capacity is 23 US Gallons. And usually with a fuel light on, I get maybe 2-3 gallons still in the tank, maybe more. I have the exact same truck as yours. Before I put bigger tires on my truck, I was getting around 15-16 on the freeway, and 12-13 city wise. Now with bigger tires, it is like 14 on the freeway I think.

Default Hey man

Is your check engine light on? If so the ECU will put the EFI system in limp home mode/full rich and your gas mileage would suffer. If so check the code box under the seat. Heck check it anyway. Are you blowing black smoke out the exhaust? If so it is probably rich. 10 mpg is low but around town rovers eat gas. Lay off the pedal a bit. I get 16 even on the freeway. Not much town driving in my DD. Gordo

Just because the CEL is on does not mean you are in limp mode. In many instances your engine menagement systen is now in open lube, not closed as it should be, and as such your truck many not be running at 100% but not in limp mode. There are only a few faults that will actually cause you to go into limp mode, meaning your transmission will have only limited operation, none of which will cause your truck to run rich.

Best MPG I ever got was 16. It was during a trip in 90 degree weather, AC full blast, 2 passengers, fully loaded, going about 75-80. Im happy with that!

When the O2 sensors are getting older they cause a decrease in fuel mileage. Everytime I've replaced mine my mileage gets better. I replace them every 3 years or so. My mileage has dropped to 11-12 from 15 as well. So I'm replacing the sensors.

Best I ever got was 19mpg. Alone, some gear, air temp was 70F going 75-80mph on the freeway. Best since that was 16.5 mpg.

rrc have 21 gallon tank (i think the '95 r the same) and when the red light turn on there is 4 or 6 gallons. my light turns on between 1/4 and the red mark. i think when i was on the red mark i had about 6 or so. i just divide the mile that i went w/ how many gallons i filled up. my last time i had about 11 or 13 mpg (city). i just changed my fuel filter and going to try the lucas fuel inject. cleaner w/ an oil change 20w/50, lucas oil stabilzer, c.o.c. oil engine flush, k&n 3001 filter, and transmission lucas fix. that's my sunday morning. also taking off my running boards and puting new mud flaps on. i am going to sell the running board.

Your tires would play a good part in it. I think your 285/75 tires, cause of their weight, and widthness (if that is word), it is drag as rotating weight, and no so aerodynamic on the freeway, as it is more surface for wind to blow around. I know this in the fashion of my previous favorite motor sport I was a part of, Drag Racing.

On the track the skinnier tires are put on the front for good reason, not to look good, but provide an aerodynamic plane for wind to bypass it. And cause it is small, it is not as heavy.

BUT, this is not saying, go ahead and put skinny tires on the front wheels of your truck.

X2. bigger tires and ac will help drink the gas faster. lead foot also can help. 19mpg would be great. i saw on ebay a RRC diesel for sale and he states that he get around 500 miles per tank.

I am pretty sure mine is 23 gal. as it says in the manual. Plus one time I was on fumes, and I let the gas pump fill my tank til' it would automatically stop once the tank got full, and the number of gallons put in was 22.5 in that vicinity. So I was real close to runnin' dry, but my RRC has the 23 gal. tank.
