Default Gas consumption

How many miles are you all able to go on a tank of gas. I think I am consuming too much. I can go about 185 miles on one tank.

Before I started the restoration I got 14.5 to 15.5 miles per gallon on my 93 LWB.

I get 200 miles around town and have seen 300 miles at highway speeds. Max /min mpg I've seen is 19.7/11.3.

Sounds about right for me too.

400-450 miles between fill ups, but then it's not a V8.

With a 3.9 I get about 200mi/tank around town. But, Im one of those lucky bastages that catches the RedLight Express nearly every time. ;(

Much closer to 400mi on the hwy. doing something that resembles the speed limit, of course.

I have a vacuum gauge smack dab in the middle of the dash to remind me to tread lightly! I will also confess that I am absolutely anal about keeping track of my mileage. I have a log that I travel with and enter in gallons and miles traveled with each fill-up. I can tell you about each and every repair done on the truck, when it was carried out, how much it cost and where the parts came from.

In my experience owning many V8 Rovers, fuel injected and carburetted, the best mileage I ever saw was on my unladen '85 with a 3.5L with dual Strombergs. On the highway I once saw around 16 mpg. Typically, 14 mpg was usual. Laden with a roof rack, winch, front and rear ARB bumpers, bigger tires and a 4 barrel, I'm thrilled if I see anything above 12 mpg.

A brand new LWB I owned back in '93-'96 NEVER saw better than 13 mpg no matter how lightly I drove, highway or city. Since then, I've never seen anything to convince me that a Rover V8 was capable of significantly better fuel economy. Expect 12-13mpg and be very happy with upwards of 14-15 mpg.

I have read about 18, 19, 20 and even 21 mpg and I am amazed. It's one thing to see a variation of maybe 10-15% based on driving styles but to see in excess of a 50% improvement in economy over standard EPA estimates and a majority of owner experiences is hard to imagine. I'm not calling anyone a liar I just wish I knew the secret they did for maximizing economy on fifteen to twenty year old trucks.

I'm talking US. When I got the highest it was about freezing and complete highway miles rolling through Ohio at 6 over the speed limit running premium gas.

Paul, now I know where that VW Cabriolet comes from. Can it comfortably seat a 6' 7" Dominican? LOL!
