Default H4 Conversion

What's the best place to buy the H4 head light conversion kit for RRCs. I'm looking to upgrade the lights. The fog lights seems much whiter/ brighter than the headlights, so i figure I'll just upgrade them.
The H4 bulbs I use are Sylvania's Xtra vision which I get from Walmart for about $15 a pair. This is what I've been using on the DII. They are really great! They have no tint and are much better than stock. I used Hella's Xenon Premium bulbs and find that they burn out too fast and not to mention that they are more expensive.

Are the headlights 7 inches in diameter?

Damn, I just read from rallylights.com that the H4 kits are not DOT approved!?

Ummm....never mind. It's the E code lamps that are not DOT approved. The Vision Plus H4 conversion lamps are OK.

Cibie and Marchal made some of the best lamps available. I have a pair of Cibies, I don't know if Marchal is still around anymore.

hello, i talked to a nice guy at the link below. the difernts is w/ ECE the light is all directed to the street and not to the side like the DOT appoved ones. in euro and uk all street signs have to have lights on them. in the US (DOT approved) the lights have to light up the sides of the road (signs etc). this link has the list and on the top they give u the differnts of DOT appoved and ECE. the # HL79562 are the ECE H4 that he told me that r great but not DOT approved. he also said that MN (were i live) they r (cops and etc) more layed back about light set ups and we have no inspections. but if u r in a state that u have to get inspection u could get fined. DOT approved lights have a mark on the lens so the inspectors and etc can take a quick look. call them they r nice to talk with. i am going to get the vision plus so i do not have to deal w/ the law!!

muddy, u should put a pic of your rcc w/ the new paint next to the one u have on your sign!

Ahhh, just get the ECE lights and don't worry about it. Don't run anything above the stock wattage and you should never attract any attention from law enforcement. Thats what I'm doing, my 7" ECEs are on the way from rallylights.com as we speak.

If you worried about inspections, you could just keep your old sealed beams for just that purpose. I think it stinks that buying "better" lights, with less glare for oncoming drivers, more light on the road, etc etc will get you a fine. Probably the issue with illuminating road signs is no longer a big deal, the new signs are so much more reflective than those of the 40's-50's-60's when the DOT light designs were created.....lol

I think the big problems with the E-codes are people don't install them properly and aim them too high which creates a big blinding factor. Installed properly they are great. I personally don't like the sharp cut off they produce.
And also using higher wattage or too blue of bulbs is really anoying.

Actually I picked up the HL95146 - which is the same design as the HL79562, but it has the "city-light" bulb in it as well, I plan to wire those in parallel with my parking lights. My Disco has the city lights - in Texas you are allowed to run with parking lights at dusk and dawn - I like having the headlamps lit as well.

They came in yesterday, but I've gotta go out of town, so I won't get them installed for a week - I'll post my impressions when I get them in....

I would say the IPF H4's, others have heard me already shout out my support of these, but I am completely impressed. IMO, I will never have DOT globes on my car again, I am enthralled with the E codes. But, that is just my preference.
