1990 Rnge rover classic- 67,000 miles on it.
Diving in to the biggest engine project for me yet.. Can anyone offer some advice as I go along? Was told I coud do the head gaskets without removing the engine. Would you leave the exhaust manifolds on and take them off with the heads, or would you try removing the 8 bolts per side? Power steering pump removal is not as obvious as the ac compressor. Do you have to remove the distributor to remove the ps pump? Does anyone have advice on head gasket kits? Thanks in advance for your help. Rob ![]() |

Took the exhaust manifolds off- not as difficult as I thought it might be. Found one broken lug, a couple of loose ones as well. Good thing the "keepers" were used. Now to attack the power steering pump.

Happy with the project so far- We'll take the heads off tomorrow. Any hints on how to find a good machine shop to suface the heads? I'm hoping my repair shop will guide me, though they may not be happy they are getting the gasket job.
