My heater only works when its on defrost. Or "max demist". As soon as i change it from the top of the dash vents to the front of the dash vents, the air goes cold. It blows very well, and very warm when it comes out of the defrost vents. wtf? Also anyone have any miracles that ficx my heated windshield? I replaced the fuses and put it on a working switch...what am i missing?
Thanks ![]()

As for the heater stuff, I have no experience with RRC heaters am afraid, however if they are cable operated like defender heaters then check under the bonnet where the cables connect to the heater box as the cable clamps slip over time. The defender box has 3 control parts to the heater box; motor wires, hot/cold lever and screen/footwell lever. It is the 2 levers that may need tweaking!

A defender and classic are completely different. On a defender, the cable runs all the way from the dash to the passenger side wing (to the heater core). On a classic, the heater core is located right behind the control panel. The dash controls actually directly control the heater (Once you have to rip apart your entire dash to replace this you'll never forget!).
I'd recommend taking the plastic piece behind all the sliders off and seeing if you can adjust the controls. |

in the rrc heat only comes out of the defrost vents (on top of dash) and the floor like funrover stated. the AC air will come out of the center vents (wood dash). it states that in the rrc manuals. wonderful design that LR came up w/ and little or no heat will come out of the to 2 small floor vent holes in the back (center console). my dad just gave me one of those small heaters that plug into the cigar lighter that he used in his 91 rrc and benz. i will use it in the back cigar lighter for my little one this winter. it gets down in the -teens w/o wind chills up in MN. best thing is to wear warm winter sock.

You have to remember that the Range Rover started out back in 1970 as a very different truck than it evolved into by 1995. The dash was always changing and being forced to accommodate more luxurious items. A/C was an afterthought. The engineers stuck items where ever they could find space. Frankly. they did a miraculous job of keeping an old design competitive into the '90's.
That's why the 1995 dash makes so much more sense. It was originally designed for the Discovery and they pretty much started with a clean sheet. There really were just two variations on the DI dash. The US market only saw the one with airbags. |

plus in the uk the weather does not get down below 32F much even up in scotland. we i lived up in edinburgh we did see about a .25" of snow which lasted a 1/2 day and turned into ice. mine keeps the rover pretty warm in tell it gets in the teens, then i can start to feel the cold.

The cable that connects your controls to the actual "doors", which control the direction of airflow out of the heater core, are steel wires inside plastic tubes. The tubes are clamped in place with little finger clamps, so that tube doesn't move, just the inner cable. Over time, the clamps allow the tube to slip, so when you move the lever, the inner cable just stays put and the tube (outer jacket) moves, and the blend doors don't move. If you're getting heat out of the defroster vents, and then it stops coming out up top, but does not come out the floor vents, you cable jackets are slipping. That's the good news. The bad news is it's a major pain to get at the clamps.
