Default Heater not Hot

This has been going on since I have had it, but i'm not too picky so I have just ignored it, but I figured I'd ask.

The heat in my rover is pretty poor. If it is below 20 out, it's pretty hard to get it even comfortable temperature, even for the front seats nevermind the rear. Is this typical? I don't recall my old rover being this bad.

Also, I believe it is correct that there is no way to have heat come out the front facing vents, but there is definately still some cold air coming through them when the heat is on and i have it full to floor or full to defrost.

I don't have grille filters in the intakes on the front cowl behind the hood because they disintegrated and I have yet to buy new ones, could it just be too much air pressure due to no restriction, pushing through the vent system??

Brand new thermostat is installed and it is no different.

You are correct. You cannot get hot air out the vents. Only to the floor and the wind screen.

If you are not getting hot you could have a clogged heater core. That is fairly common. Make sure the hoses off the back of the motor that go through the firewall are not kinked. I had that after I installed my heater core. It is a tight fit between the firewall and the engine and those hoses could be kinked. Which would reduce the flow to the heater core.

Hmm.. well if the heater core is clogged, there's no way in hell I"m going through all that to get it out. i've parted these trucks so I know what it takes... I'll just deal with it being cold. I guess I was just hoping to get some magical remedy that i couldn't think of...

What about the cool air through the vents while the heat is on? if you put your hand up in front of the vents while moving you feel freezing air coming through them. I know they can't blow heat, but does yours really let in cold air like that?

Mine does that as well, but I think it's just due to a badly adjusted lever when I put the whole thing back together. You coudl try taking the plastic piece behind the controls off and messing with the adjustments.

The damper that is "fresh" air is probably not closing. It was not really all that bad on the tear down. You could try some high pressure fluids maybe you break some stuff loose. Check those hoses for kinks too.

Mine takes a while to heat up, but when it does, I'm already cracking open the sunroof and rolling down the windows. Also your thermostat could be stuck open. And this is killing not only your heat, but your gas mileage as well (engine not at operating temp.).
