Default Help! Drivers cv issues.

Ok so let me start by saying that I did search for older threads on this issue, and i found some about similar issues, but nothing exactly like mine. Basically if my 92 rrc is standing still or moving slowly (under 20 mph) i get a tight spot when steering left from center, which is followed by a loud thud, then steering feels normal for the remainder of the wheels leftward travel. On top of that my driver side front rotor/hub/caliper area is saturated in gear oil. With the truck in the air and my hands at 12 and 6 o'clock on either front tire, I can see a substantial amount of play. The passenger side has significantly less and doesn't leak any oil but still doesn't feel right. From what I have read it sounds like I at very least need a full cv/swivel seal set and at worst, that combined with a pair of cv's. Being that it is the Christmas season, funds are extremely limited and any insight would be appreciated. This is my daily for the winter so it has to function properly if you know what I mean!

Has anyone dealt with this? Or is it nothing more than a worn cv/swivelball seal set combined with a loss of fluid that is causing this?

Whenever something is amiss with the steering it is urgent that you find out what is going on. It's time to get your hands dirty. Start digging in. That's the only way you're going to determine what's really wrong.

PS I saw you're in Trumbull. Are you the person that called me about the oil pressure?

yep that was me, it passed the long distance test. Didnt get louder or anything. It's really only heard at idle. But now I have this issue. Of course my garage is inaccessible when I need it most and this truck is my daily. I cant really just rip into it with no parts to repair it, and have it sit around with it's hub apart until I get parts for it. I would, but Trumbull loves to tow disabled vehicles

Rovers North, 1-800-403-7591, ask for Art or Les.

Check out my tech tips on CV joints if you haven't done one before.

If you have play, sounds like a bearing issue, along with a bad seal somewhere.

But as mentioned before, no way of finding out exactly where the prob is unless you rip into it.

Make sure to have a 12pt 13mm Socket or box wrench, the hub socket ( 2" & 1/16th ) and Retaining Ring pliers.
