I have a '93 LWB and my wife broke her key off in the ignition. It still worked for a few more tries, now it won't turn. Any suggestions? It's sitting on the side of the road and I can't get it up on my trailer while in park. Can I disable the cylinder somehow, break it loose or no? I don't really care if I don't have to use a key anymore. The door locks work well. I hope someone has some insight! Thanks, Brett.

Take off the steering column plastic shroud/trim pieces, on you will see the ignition cylinder unit basically clamped around the steering shaft tube - its clamped with two bolts that they break the heads off when they get it tight. You can either drill out the top of the bolts or use a sharp chisel and spin the bolts back out. Once its off, it will release the lock on the steering wheel and you can also remove the actual ignition electrical switch from it and start the truck. heres a pic of the unit, but in this pic the bolts still have their heads....

I think they snapped off the bolts for security reasons - ie somebody supposedly couldn't quickly remove the steering column lock....

If you ever need to remove those shear bolts, take a dremel and cut a line in them. Then you can screw them out with a screw driver. The bolts are even reusable if you don't get new ones with the new ignition.
