Default Help with lights

So my friend was just over and he was going to order me 2 sets of 8k bulbs for my headlights and fogs, but old rovers dont use bulbs, like its one big bulb i think. So its an extra $300 to replace it with HID's. I want HID heads and fogs and I was wondering if anyone has done that and if so how much did it cost and how does it look?

thanks guys

I picked up a set of hella 7" headlights with the replaceable bulbs. I have a set of hid's for them I just have bothered with hooking them up. The hid kit cost $70 and the hella's off ebay were $30 so about $100 there.

I have hella 151 driving lights and they have replaceable bulbs but I see no reason to do that to them I'll have enough light once I get around to doing the headlight hid's. The fogs were $35. so it would be about $105 to do those as well.

So replacing the whole head lights and putting in like 8k bubls is only 70 bucks for 2? I think the fog lights have bulbs so all you need is a 8k bulb and a HID kit and ballast and everything. But the head lights dont have bulbs like new cars do which sucks.

I replaced the main headlights with a set of Sylvania Silverstar sealed assembly units, but there are many replacement units available that take 9007 bulbs. Look on ebay, our headlights are the same standard headlight that went into everything with round headlights i.e. Jeeps, Nissan 280-zx, Toyota landcruiser, etc.

I would like to upgrade to HID, but the Silverstars are really bright, and I never have to use my Hi-Beams (everyone flashes me already because of how bright the Lo-Beams are). They are spomething like $25 a piece, and if something happens to them, save the box and return them to walmart for a fresh set.

I was planning on running PIAA Extreme White in my fogs, but may go the HID path because of how cheap they are getting now.

Good luck with your set up and let us know how they work.

What ArmyRover is saying is -- the Hella 7" lights are lights with replaceable bulbs. Back in the day, (like the 90's when RRC's were new), a lot of cars in the US still used sealed beam headlamps, because the USDOT relied on rules established in the 30's on proper lighting.

That said -- lamp housings designed for halogen bulbs should not be used with HID bulbs. The focal point is different, so the light will not be projected correctly, and you'll be blinding oncoming drivers.

Nothing makes me want to get out the baseball bat and play a little headlight fungo like some numbskull with a flaring set of cheap-o HID's in their car. I take it back -- I feel even more that way when the numbskull is also blasting the fog lamps. That makes me want to hook up the winch and rip the entire front of the car off, and the flog the owner with the parts.

If you want better lighting for your RRC, swap to a set of Hella's with decent halogen bulbs. Leave the HIDs for cars with properly designed HID lamps, don't be a ricetard.

haha your not afraid to share you feelings one bit, well put haha. I dont like Halogens though, I like HID's that go wide and far. Lobster I took a look at those, they arent HID but they are pretty bright, but you can upgrade them to HID? like white or blue? I think having blue fogs would look really cool.

x2... Very well put.

Check with Rallylights for a good quality E-code halogen setup. The 8K lights will be extremely blue, and IMO extremely annoying. If you do go the HID route, please make sure they are aimed properly. This site, Daniel Stern Lighting Consultancy and Supply , has a lot of good info regarding aiming & lighting.

I have done the conversion on standard halogen units with no ill effects with blinding everyone. It's called take the time to aim the lights lol. oh and I went with the 6k on the bike and wifes car, very little blue in the light but worlds better for night driving. Oh and honestly if the bike lights piss someone off good at least they see me

As for the fog lights the only time I fire those up on the road is usually right after some asshat nearly hits the Rover and then is nice enough to pull into the lane I'm in directly in front of the rover. Then I fire up all the lights and see if I can wash the color out of their paint job. I don't honk I don't cuss I don't flip them off, I annoy the hell out of them with bright light.

I don't know if they are 8k, I think they are actually in the 7k range, but you can check the osram/sylvania site for more info

No Problem, I've gone through many lights throughout all of my vehicles and I've always been happy with Silverstars, over PIAA's even.

They also sell an HID running light upgrade, if I remember correctly, they are about the same size as the foglights. They should also be on their site if they still sell them
