Default Help Removing Front Cover

I need help with the following.

1. I've removed the oil pan, but how do I now get it out? No matter which way I turn it, sway bars etc. are in the way!

2. I need to lock the transmission so I can turn the bolt on the front of the crankshaft pulley. I've been told there is a service plate over the transmission that will let me grab the drive shaft to keep it from turning while I undo the bolt. What does this service plate look like (shape, size) and where located?

Thanks,

Champlain Rover

Round, with three bolts if I remember correctly.

I've only had my 94 for a couple of days now so I have no "hands on" rover experience...but on other solid axle 4x4 vehicles I've worked on I have found it helpful to jack up the vehicle on the frame so that the front axle droops down giving more clearance.

If you have an EAS truck, you can put it at its highest setting, drop the oil pan, rest it on the sway bar, then remove the pickup pipe/screen from the sump (two small bolts, some fancy wrist work required here.). Then you can slide the pan over the front axle. On a non-EAS truck, you'll have to jack up the car on the chassis beams so the axle drops really low.

HTH.
