Default HELP: Rover Won't start

oK, here is the situation. This is the second time it has done it.
Monday: Go to Rover, attempt to start it, nothing, just clicks. Won;t even turn over. Move the gearshift around, leave it in Park, try again, nothing.
Boost it with my other car. Try again, nothing. Then I put it in Neutral and it was fine! No problems after that with starting in Park, or starting at all.

Drove it all day monday, tuesday no problems.

Then today, this morning, same thing. Try to start it, nothing just clicks. There is some power(as deck, etc work). Tried putting it in Neutral, won't start in it either.

Haven't had a chance to boost it yet, as I had to go to work.

Now, I am thinking
a) it is the battery, it has been cold around here, and the battery is not doing its thing, and is weak or w/e,
B) Something somewhere is fucked up, WHAT?

I felt the door locks to see if they were warm, but they aren't so that isn't draining my battery.
what else could it be?
I am thinking of getting another battery and seeing if that helps my situation.
BTW, the alternator is several months old, so I don't think it has anythign to do with that.

Thanks.

I had this EXACT same problem w/my D1. I tried jumping it...no go. I just cleaned the battery connectors and cleaned the top of the battery. It was the connection...some stuff got in between it. It finally started right up, but took me WAY too long to figure it out....

Good luck...

Maybe its the sandglow yellow paint in it? Try cleaning all the terminals, see if that works.. if not, try another battery..

test w/ a meter to see if anything is draining the battery. i had my key chim and the alarm was draining my battery and was very small .25 or so but after 3 or 4 day sitting the whole battery would b dead. i bypassed the alarm and key chim and everything works good. i can look up the info in my records that i keep.
also is your battery fully charged, how old is it, how many CCA does it have? before i found that my battery was drained i got a new one w/ 875 cca and it starts up good in the cold winter of MN (1 degree out this morning) and i use alot of power toys.

I hate to relate this to my aunt's Jeep Grand Cherokee, but what cause my aunt's Jeep to not turn over was a lot of swill and shit on the starter solenoid and the connections from the battery.

I had to drive all the way out to her at the hospital in Detroit, and work on it, found that the solenoid wasn't getting 12V when the starter was attempting to crank, so i cleaned the hell out of the connections and it worked.

Best of luck.

MuddyRangeRover, good luck...I would start with the starter solenoid and batt connections, make sure good contact. Then the gear indicator switch..I assume that autos have it like a stick has one.....I know the wiring has a lot to desire...

Also, update the picture, or sign with the before and after....more pics.

Good luck

Obviously the truck is angry about the whitewalls you gave it!

Clean the battery posts... after you turn the tires around!

hahaha

No Dice.
Tried the battery terminals, treid boosting it,and trying tapping on the starter(which is in a shitty place).
Won't do more than click.
Currently trying to find a place that specializes in these beasts.

Okay I had lots of trouble with my ignition switch.
Have you looked at that?
I assume you have power to everything, radio, windows, etc....

Is it just one click or multiple???
Try cleaning/changing the the starter relay. I had a similar problem and the relay was to blame.

(Extremely embarassing admission coming up...)

Check and make sure that your battery isn't dry. One day last summer when I hit the ignition switch all I got was a click. My battery was only two months old, so I assumed that I had something loose or something was draining the battery. I checked all my connections, tried to jump it, nothing.

My wife's cousin, who is a real goober, stopped by as I was going back over all of the connections. He popped the plates off the battery, and wouldn't you know it, a couple of the cells were dry.

I topped them off and jumped the truck, and bada bing it started right up.

In my 88 it's in the engine compartment, but I think the 90's is in the cluster by the steering wheel.
