Default Help! Stereo problems

Sorry guys, I'm new and need help.

Last year, my heater core blew and soaked the original radio/tape player in my '91 Range Rover. Thankfully, the 6-disc Pioneer CD player wasn’t affected. After the radio dried out and I replaced the heater core, the radio and CD functions worked fine, but the tape player was screwed up. It keeps fast forwarding and wouldn’t play at all, but I can live without tapes.

Things were fine and five months go by. All of a sudden, I can’t hear the CD player now. It still works (it’s getting power and is recognized through the radio controls), but the CD music is extremely faint. I really have to crank up the volume and can only hear the music from the CD when the engine is off. The radio signal and volume are normal and all fuses are fine.

Anybody have an idea what might be going on? Could it be something with one of the amplifiers (RTC7651)? But wouldn't that also affect the radio?

I’m encouraged that I can still hear music when the CD player is on, but I just can’t diagnose the problem. I’d like to avoid replacing the unit if possible, particularly if it's something simple. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately this does not sound very good. If you are sure that the audio connections from the CD to the radio did not get disturbed then there might be something wrong with the input electronics inside the radio. Did you clean the radio internals after the flood? If not then chances are that the glycol gunk left on the electronics may have led to failure.

You might try cleaning the inside of the radio and see if that will make it work.

Sorry for the bad news,

Aarne

I would look at the connections. When my heater core blew the connections behind the radio coroded very quickly. Clean them and see what happens.

Hmm, inside the radio huh. Unexplored territory. The external connections seemed clean but I haven't had the courage to delve inside. Oh well, you only live once. Thanks for the advice.
