Default help, water in my rover.

Hey guys and thanks in advance. I bought a 1992 rr about three weeks ago and discovered water under the drivers side carpet. the carpet was dry but the thick rubber insulation was soaked. i assumed a window had been left down and proceeded to remove the aluminum plate, pull up the carpet and wet/dry vac out th e rubber.

problem solved right, wrong after a heavy rain recently the rubber is wet again but the carpet dry as a bone.

where could this be coming from? i know the sunroof has a drip in the back but shouldn't that go down the sunroof drains? any suggestions would be appreciated. i've had a 89 rr before so i know all about the rovers "quirks" to put it nicely.

Well, my RRC's weather stripping is a little worn, and when I either wash it, or it rains, water gets in.

When I first got my RRC, I was cleaning it, and it's funny, because the previous owner was a doctor and you'd think they would be clean, but he wasn't, one thing lead to another while cleaning, and I also dicovered water trapped under the carpet. It was pretty nasty, but was easily cleaned.

I can't really think of how to fix it, other than replace the weather stripping with something a little thicker. I don't mess with mine anyways.

Are you actually driving it or does it sit at home. You could find a number of holes in the floor under the carpet, there is a join between the floor and the firewall that can leak when driving. It could also be coming through where the brake pedal goes through the firewall, etc. If you are not dring it, it could be through the winscreen and running down the kick panel or firewall rather than onto the carpet.

Could be coming from any number of places.
First. It could be coming in from the front vent. If your weather seal is bad there.
Second. The windshield. As these suckers are designed to twist a bit the seal on the windshield is leaky.
Third. Holes in the floor board. There are more holes under there than you really want to know about. But you could pull all the carpet up and close them.

If I were you. Check for rust under the carpet. Then have the windshiled resealed. It will require them removing the windshield and refitting it. I think my Binswanger Glass guys said 50$ to do mine. I didn't have the time to wait in the queue so it's on my list.

The seal on the heater box is a nightmare to get too. Basically the entire dash comes out for it. If you tear down this far you will be able to see the entire floor board though. Thus making the hole plugging easier.

Those are the three areas I know about.

I haven't noticed to look but are there rubber plugs in the floor boards? I would imagine these things would be used to drain any kind of water that gets in there.
