Default hi from a noob

Hi folks.

wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. About 6 weeks ago, I picked up a '92 range rover. I mostly bought it because it had some character, and it was less expensive to buy that than to rent a van or suv to have while my audi was in the shop for some "upgrades".

Now my audi is back but I have decided to hold on to the rover. it is in really rough condition, but over the next couple months I hope to make it into an offroad worthy toy.

mechanically, it is in good shape. the only exception being the center diff which has failed open. there is also some rust on the underside behind the driver front wheel well.

the body has several dented panels from previous run ins with rocks. looks like it had a brush guard and lights on the front at one time that are not there now. inside the wood trim is cracked and it is a little dirty.

so far I have replaced a rusty lower rear tailgate, added the expedition basket, and have ordered some new tires that should be here this weekend.

anyway, I'll likely be lurking here and asking lots of questions in the coming weeks and months. I look forward to being a part of this forum.

- Andrew

PS - the name gragravar is one I use on the other forums I participate in (mostly audiworld and rmcb5.com) so I decided to use it here too.

thanks.

well, first up is the tires. just ordered some today and will get them put on on Saturday over at 4 wheel parts. based on both price and availability I went with a super swamper Trxus Mud Terrain like this (but in a 235/85-16):

I had been planning to go with MTR's but apparently there are production issues (a plant strike) and the size I wanted is back ordered.

next up will be swapping out that unlocked/failed center diff - probably for a manually locking one from a Disco I.

after that I am starting to look into some sliders and a winch mount/brush bar bumper for the front. leaning toward RoverTym for both of those.

I have a site that is all about RRCs.
You might check it out if you're bored.

I don't think it looks in too bad condition. But if you have rust, lift the carpet in the rear and check out the floor pan, they can be bad for rusting by all accounts. My RRC had the beginings of rust under the carpet but I took care of it with a wire brush and a can of POR15.
