how do i remove sunroof tray - Land Rovers Only

Submitted this question as an add on to an earlier thread but it didnt get noticed. I would sure appreciate any help that anyone can offer.

Removing the sunroof panel to reupholster it. I can see the screws that hold the sunroof tray to the roof. however if i unscrew those, what else do I have to disassemble? remove the motor? there are some kind of tubes that run from the motor to the sunroof, which I assume have cables in them, do i remove these first somehow? Thanks.

You do not have to remove the whole Sunroof & Headliner Board to do that process.

Their entire process is just 4 torx screws which holds the glass in, 4 stainless screws to remove the drip tray and removing 4 spring clips that hold in the sunroof slider.

All is done from the top with out removing the Headliner Board.

DO NOT REMOVE THE TUBES or SUNROOF MOTOR etc...

I can walk you through the whole process step by step if needed. The whole job should only take about 1-1/2 hour from start to finish for a first DIY'er

Is this the same with an 89 steel sunroof?
I need to redo mine & the upholstery guy said $150... JUST for the sunroof itself!

You won’t have to remove your metal Sunroof in order to remove your Material Covered Panel

First open your sunroof to the vent position, their are #2 plastic clips that the “Arms to the Sunroof Panel” your wanting the recover attach to the arched Rain Troft Tray at the back of the opening of the sunroof that will need to be disconnected from the tray which slides on the sunroof rails.

When you operate your sunroof both the inner cover panel and the rear rain troft tray move forward and back on the sunroof rails. The Rain Troft Tray is arched in design to capture the water run off from the back of the Sunroof which then channels the water to either the left or right side drain tubes

Once the Rain Troft Tray is disconnected from the arms you can then push back the tray towards the back of your sunroof to get it out the way, now close your sunroof back to the normal neutral position.

Slowly open your sunroof back about “4-5 inches NO MORE” and un-clip the front of the sunroof panel from the Metal Roof, their should be about 5 metal clips you will need to unclip by slightly pulling down on the front of the Panel. Once the clips are loose.

Now close your roof again, open to vent again you will need to locate both the metal arms which you disconnect from the rain troft clips and slide them up and out the back opening of the sunroof which is attached to the inner panel, REMEMBER the Rain Troft tray is sitting on the rails don’t run the roof back completely or we will have another issue to contend with.

Once you have recovered your panel, reverse the instructions going back in. You will need to remember the Rain Troft Tray is still sitting in the back of the roof and will need to be pulled forward to be re-attached, you may need some one with a small hand to reach into the sunroof opening and retreave the tray if you hands are large und unable to get into the opening.

If your shop has first hand knowledge of your Sunroof it may be worth $150 or more to have this done, but im sure i can walk you through the process to save you some money too.
