Default how much can you make parting a classic out?

I am at the end of my fuse with my 93LWB i get it to run something else kills it 30 minutes later, i figure that problem out then something else, you need to know when to throw in the towel, seeing as a 2000 or so discovery goes for around 5k here, do you think it would be possible to get 5k worth of parts out of my RR, I would say most of the body is not sellable, my left fender is new though and the roof looks good, I have brand new tires (drove for like a week, they still have chalk marks on them from the supllier) but other then that everything is in decent shape for its age...

Well........I would send a pm to paul grant and ask him that question because he is the leading parting out guy on this forum......as of getting 5k worth...I would say "no" unless most of your parts are in good shape... also you would have that truck for a while trying to sell parts....In my opinon I would go and get a throw away rover and swap the parts that you need to make your current rover running right....I believe there is a guy on here that purchased one for only $300. Hope my $2.02 cents was helpful

I don't think you'll get close to 5k... maybe somewhere between 2-3k if you're lucky over time.
Also what makes you think you will not have problems with a slightly newer Disco?
Other than your current no start issue, what else is wrong with it?

I'm in process of selling off the excess parts of parting out an 89 and I'll tell you first hand, you won't make much. Unless you do it a lot or do it for a business and are well known in the community (like paul grant, will tillery,... I can't speak for their sucess in doing so. I only assume just becasue they are known so well). you'll probably be sitting on a parts pile for a while (like me). You'll get rid of the big hot ticket items alright but, be prepared to have everything else sit on a shelf for a while. I was luck enough to make my money back and then some on the truck I bought but, I bought it more for the parts I wanted to use rather than make money to sell it.

I would recommend just keep plugging away at it and fix it. Preaty soon everything will be new and the truck will get reliable eventually. especially if the truck is still in decent shape.

in addition to the no start which i fixed with a new ign module, spark plugs and rotor, its doing the classic classic stalling after a few minutes of running, coolant is leaking out of the head gasket, it needs brakes which i just ordered from atlanticbritish before my truck had its no start issue, the rear springs need replacing, and the body is in poor shape... I had plans on fixing most of the stuff over time but i was depending on a reliable engine, also the difference between a disco and a classic is technology, the classic is 80's tech a mish mash of old stuff with new stuff that wasn't battle tested yet, a disco2 is run by computers just the way i like my cars, I'm a 23 year old mechanic everything i know is computerized controls...

i may even look at a freelander, alittle more practical as a daily commuter but still capable of bringing me, my dog, and my dirtbike into deep wilderness areas
