So what kind of ignition setups do you guys run on your Rangies?I wanted to try a Jacobs 4x4 kit on my 90 Classic. I ran one on my toyota buggy when they first came out and wasnt impressed. But the Rangies seem like they would benefit from a strong full Ignition setup.I had a jacobs coil on my 95 RRC and it seemed to help a bit(my plugs lasted longer and i could gap them a little more). So does anyone have a full jacobs or MSD or any aftermarket ignition setup on thier Rangies?
Please give me some ideas.

I've been using a Mallory Unilite distributor and Promaster coil for a couple of years on my Range Rover. It's simple and probably less that the Jacobs ignition set up will cost you and you're not left reliant on a seventeen year old dizzy.

91 Discovery: Crane Fireball HI6 ignition controller with Crane PS92 coil, NGK BP5ES plugs and 8mm magnacor leads. 95 Discovery: MSD6A ignition, Jacobs Ultacoil, Jacobs Accuvolt, NGK7ES plugs and 10mm magnacor leads. Very happy with all the above.

I should also mention that on a stock engine that's 16 years old an ignition upgrade probably won't hurt. On a newer motor the performance increase would not warrant the cash outlay.

I forgot all about crane. The 4.6 in my Rover is not a high mileage block so i think a new ignition will help me get all the power and economy i need.I do drive it everyday and like my rover to be happy.Ill be installing a 4.6 liter chip asap,im running a 4.2 chip in it right now.So with a new chip and a full ignition set up,i should notice a big difference.thanks for the input and please keep em coming. And before you ask she runs very very well with the 4.2 chip

Ive been researching for a while and a few folks i talked too have mostly performance distributors components. They seem to make a lot of bits for Landys. But its all mail order stuff and im looking for easy to get bits.I do like that RR Distributor though
But at $655 its a bit steep. Thanks for your input.Theres no better way to figure shit out than just asking someone thats done it.Im thinking ill just save some cash and do a whole electrical system upgrade,Dizzy, ignition, alternator, battery and such. Will it ever end ![]()
