Angry I used to have a working front windshield defroster....

Apparently the NH State highway department thought that a working electrical item on a RRC had to be stopped. While my wife was driving north on route 3 one of there awesome plow trucks decided to send ice and snow over the side of the overpass. Which of course struck the range rover square in the windshield putting about 20 spider cracks all up and down the windshield. I of course have liability only. I had her file a police report for the damage and I'm waiting for the Highway dept. to return my call to see if they will do anything about it.

If I go with the standard windshield i.e. no defrost it'll run me $330 I'm awaiting a return call for how much with the defrost

Here's a couple of pics. Looking at it in person I'm amazed it didn't let go and come into my wife's lap at 55 mph. On the inside you can see where the lamination is separated from the glass. In the end I'm glad she and my daughter weren't injured.

Has anyone had to try a deal with something similiar with the highway dept?

Glad all are OK. Looks like stress cracks. Probably caused by too much weight on the mirror from pine tree air fresheners. Hey, did you know that pine tree air fresheners are made in Watertown, NY?
I may actually have a new rubber gasket for your glass if you need one.

you know the part that drives me nuts is the fact that when I look at the thread it's covered in ads for places to install a new windshield.......

If only I had a pine air freshner to blame lol.

The highway dept guy never called back guessing that's a bad sign

when it comes to replacing it I'll have that done by a professional I've done one before and swore to never again try that.

Glad your fam is okay...Your wife has some great driving skills to not loose it when that happened...bet she needed an underwear change after though!

Last time I looked a heated window was like $800-$900 from Roverland ...and thats used. In my experience dealing with a city\state entity you are more than likely looking at nada. Have you talked with your insurance agent..possibly there is something they can do.

Not a problem, and the way to go. I'd really love to get this damned gasket out of my basement, though!

I nailed a pothole in Buffalo once, grenaded a $400 BBS wheel on my Audi. Called the city's legal department. "Yes, we're liable for that. Yes, you can file a claim. We have no money in that fund, it'll never get paid." On a good note, they did fill the pothole the following day...

$330 installed for no defrost and $750 plus shipping for just the windshield with defrost from atlantic british.

I only had liability only on the Rover unfortunately so they don't cover the windshield as far as I know but I'll call and ask on monday just in case.

Dude you need to have a lawyer friend send them a letter. You don't have to sue them but the danger alone to your wife and daughter should warrant them replacing your windshield YOUR way. Don't roll over, that's what they want you to do. I work for the state of Oklahoma and they are SLOWWWWWWW at responding because who ever takes the call has to ask their supervisor what to do. The supervisor sends a memo to the supervisor in another section, etc... FINALLY it will get to their LEGAL department. Where only God know how long it will sit on someone's desk.
You need to grease the wheels with a firmly worded letter from a lawyer.

I had the City of Norman scratch up my Rangie. I called them that day and filled a complaint. Then I called my City Councilman, who happened to live in my neighborhood. I got reimbursed fully, even for the time off from work to get it fixed.

If you haven't called your legislator yet, you need to. They should be more careful about that sort of stuff, JUST THINK THAT COULD HAVE BEEN A SCHOOL BUS FULL OF HONOR STUDENTS!!!! I'm sure you get where I'm going with this.

HEy! Has your local TV Channel seen the windshield?

Hadn't really considered contacting a lawyer. I could contact a Captain friend of mine in the Jag corps and see what he thinks, though. I was thinking if they told me to screw I would file a case in small claims court sueing them for the cost of the windshield. I will however contact the city councilman for the district I live in to see if he has anything useful to say.

Bulldog lol I was thinking the same thing nothing like being a marked man by the highway dept.

I doubt any local tv stations would care though but I'll check out the websites and see if they have a link to report stuff like this.

oh and just got the estimate for replacement with the new electric defrost windshield $953.00. Holy Balls batman I think that makes it totaled.

Have you checked with Paul Grant to see if he has one? Or some of the others who are parting out Classics.

Good luck.

The problem with getting a used one is most of the install places I stopped at aren't inclined to install a windshield that wasn't provided by them. The one that said they would install it wouldn't warranty the install at all which concerns me a bit. So if the highway dept won't own up I'll probably just go with a standard windshield and call it a day.

I hear ya...I've only got $2k into mine, and that's with me rebuilding the tranny. I've got a *small* stone chip that I'm going to get filled ASAP...don't want it to spread.

I'm betting that if you find the right person you may just get this taken care of...BTW don't be afraid to use your Mil status...could grease the wheels in the right direction...for instance didn't you say you were going OCONUS soon...*wink* *wink*
