Default Instant headroom...well not really instant, but headroom anyway!!!

I recently cut down my driver-side seat mount, and thought I would share the pics showing the difference between it and the stock passenger side, I did my best to get the seatbacks setting at the same angle to demonstrate the actual difference... I apologize for slacking and not taking pictures throughtout, but here are some from the aftermath...
the first two show the side view of the tops of the seats with yardsticks across the headrests for comparison...
the next two show the outter seat mounts with the drivers side first...
the next are the inner seat mounts, again with the drivers side first...
they are followed by a few more shots from different angles...
I just cut the rear mounts down ~ 1 3/4", that was all I could take out of the inner mount, without sinking it down into the floor. before welding them back up, I screwed the bolts into the nutsert, because it wouldn't have been possible to fit them after they were welded due to a lack of clearance...

I'm 6-1 but I drove the whole way back from Phoenix to LA with the seat motors non opeartional & the seat rear all the way up... did I mention that d*** sunroof... LOL
Boy my neck was sore from keeping it tilted 20 degrees over the whole 5 hours!

Yes I tried to put it up through the sunroof opening! LOL

Thanks for the pics...I'm inspired now!

Hey, I like this threat - I'm between 6'4" and 6'5" and fairly long waisted - I certainly can't wear a hat in my classic.

So you only cut the rear mounts? Would it be possible to cut the fronts any to gain a bit more clearance and level the seat some in the process?

the problem with the fron is the inner mounts, they are already sitting on the trans. hump... but you could cut some and build a little inverted half box type thingy to drop it down, but that would complicate it....if you have the time, it could help, but this was about 15 minutes worth of cutting with a grinder and a little hammering and another 10 of welding...if you do the front, let us know how it went...and you would prolly need to relocate the relays and stuff under the seat...btw I only did the drivers seat...and now I could wear a cowboy hat in mine....if i had a cowboy hat

I was thinking about this some more, and I think I would just do the rears - because I keep the front of my seat up some to be more comfortable, otherwise I fell like I'm slideing out of the seat. If I drop the front of the seat, it helps with the headroom since my butt drops down as well, but its not at comfortable. I think with your mod, I could drop the front all the way and still have that tilt back of the bottom cushion that is more comfortable....
