Default On-line source for RRC Alternator?

Can anyone reccomend a good on-line retailer for an alternator for my '95 RRC besides Atlantic-British?

Has anyone ever retrofitted an alt meant for a different vehicle to theirs?

Thanks guys, I found a bunch of links from Rover.net....It seems like everybody wants you to send them a core Arghhh!

Do you guys have a suggestion among the re-mans? I am going to stick with an alt made for the Rover, but there are a bunch of choices. I am leaning toward the Bosch unit , but I don't know if it makes a difference if I get the air ride or non-air ride unit, since my truck is retro fitted with springs and the air ride is no longer used. I don't know if the air ride alt wires or mounts differently or something......the non-air ride alt is a little cheaper, and it looks like I won't have to swap the pulley, where I would with the air-ride alt.

Also , this truck is a 95 Classic, so quite a few of the parts are '95 specific....

I had my '95 alternator rebuilt at a local electrical repair shop. They have done all of my small electrical work over the years. It costs less than a reman and lasts as long or longer. There is no core to fool with and they have a good warranty. That would be my suggestion if you have an electrical shop local to you.

Unfortunately, I live in the boonies, so no alt/starter shop within a 1 1/2 hours , it's the on-line route for me.....

I found a Marelli on Drivewire, but they are like $325, no core. I don't know that the Marelli is that much better than the Bosch....I sort of like the idea of keeping the old alt, and when I do make the drive (I drive about 2 hours to the other coast every couple of months) dropping it off to be rebuilt, so I would have a good spare....

Are the Marellis worth it?

I pioneered the VW Bosch swap back in '04.
A few years back the owner of a '93 classic with serpentine belt sent me nasty email. He was upset that the VW Bosch alternator didn't fit his motor. I politely replied the swap specifically mentions for V-belt models only.

It's not my fault he didn't catch that in my DIY page.

I have no idea what prevents the alternator from fitting serpentine models.
Since I don't know of anyone near me with a 93-95 Classic, I can't test fit it.

I'll speak to John Gadd about this, perhaps he knows someone from SCLR that is willing to try a VW Bosch alternator.

I wasn't looking at doing a VW alt swap, a bunch of places that I checked listed a Bosch reman for the 95 Classic and occassionally the 95 Classic and the SE as a direct fit replacement part.....

I don't know exactly how different the '95 Classic is from , say, the '93, but I do know that it mounts on the right side instead of the left, and that it's a serp belt pulley.....The '95 Classic seems to have a bunch of parts that are '95 specific, so I imagine there are quite a few differences.....I know that it makes parts hunting interesting!

Yeah, but will the Satrurn alt mount up? The pics I have seen of the Saturn swaps had the alt on the left side of the engine, by the oil filler cap. On the '95, the alt is on the right side.....
