Low/High shifter

I have noticed my 4wd shifter knob is positioned more forward than some others I have seen. I tried to shift into the low position and it won't go past neutral. I have no immediate need to use the low setting but I'm wondering what's going on?

Maybe you're already doing this, but it helps if you're moving when you shift.

It's conceivable that your linkage is bent, though I've never heard of that.

Sounds like it's not a priority, but you may want to get that fixed. If you never shift into low, the transfer case can get gummed up and be problematic if you ever need it or need to sell it.

I suppose it's possible that there's something (maybe major, maybe minor) that is blocking it from going into low, and a previous owner tried to force it, bending the linkage forward.

That is weird. Can you take a picture of it's orientation?

Any chance this is a truck with a non stock motor? just a long shot guess.

My shifter on mine doesn't move period. Someone mentioned to me that there is a solenoid that prevents the shifter from popping out of gear and into neutral. Although that was installed on later RRCs. What year is yours? if there is a solenoid, it might be stuck. I'm not too sure though.

To answer questions in the above post: Yes it's a stock motor. I'll post a pic tomorrow. The shifter will go into neutral no problem but it's all the way forward.

On a RRC:That solenoid is built-in to the H-L shifter itself. Try unplugging the wiring harness to it. That may disable the safety solenoid.
