Default Might be buying a RR

Greetings to all,

I have the opportunity to by a 1995 Range Rover Classic County edition with 99K miles on it for 1800.00 Major rust on hood(can put my hand through) Interior is cracked. no rust on tailgate. I don't know engine size. It looks like its been sitting a while. Is that a decent price for it? It's going to be a trail truck so it will be a work in progress. Are there alot of after market parts for these rigs?(lift,ARB bumpers, etc.)Should I ask for 1500 or is 1800 a fair price. Thanks for the comments.

Does it run? (4.2 ltr motor btw) Will it move? What part of the country is it located? Frame rusted? Electrical gremlins? Be very careful!

FWIW, I bought my 94 LWB for the same price with 81k miles, couple spots of rust, perfect interior, but a blown tranny...so I say go LESS $$. Gauge the seller...but I say start at $1000 or less...top at $1500. Walk away if mechanicals are crap or frame is rusted...there are lots of other RRC to choose from so don't get blinded with the fever.

It will have a 3.9L if it is not a LWB and a 4.2L if it is. I would say 1800 is fair if everything works and the only thing wrong is the rust/ interior. I paid 3250 for my '95 LWB with 119K on the clock but it had a rebuilt motor and no visible rust. keyword visible.

The guy owns or works at a junk yard. He said it doesn't run and the gas tank had holes in the gas tank from a fork lift or something. He originally wanted $2500.00 then backed down to $1800 and said everything will be fixed and running for $1800.00. Ill Try to get pics soon. Paint looked pretty decent.(black with tan cracked leather inside) Don't think its a LWB,but then again I'm new to the Rover world. And I need to check out the frame, exhaust for rust next time. Would this have the air suspension or no? It had front Bleisten(sp) shocks and front Grill guard. It would be a sweet truck! I hope its legit. As far as the fever goes yup, I got it.

oh its in the North East by the way.

You say it's at a junkyard...careful...what kind of title...salvage?? That would mean off road only...which for a trailered toy is no prob...but you won't be able drive on the street (no insurance). Still think it's too much $$...got to think what he paid for it...$200? $500? And think about what he's going to do to get it running?? Has the junkyard guy messed with rovers before? Seriously...go in with your EYES WIDE OPEN!

I don't know if he messed w/rovers before. I know it can be a nice rig with a little TLC, just want to make sure it's not a POS in disguise. Maybe I need to take a qualified mechanic with me next time.

I'd take a look at craigslist and forums like this one and find yourself a better Rover to start with. Nothing can destroy the Rover experience quicker than getting one that is run into the ground. Even starting out in good shape they still cost a bit on maintenance.

If your in the New England area there are quite a few of us up here in a club and one of the members might be nearby to help look over the RRC with you.

By the amount of rust on it, it would appear that it has had a lot of salt over its life. I would not touch it except for spare parts, too much rust.

I've never seen a hood that rusty and I'm in CT... Heck, I've seen someone on this board get one in better shape than that for $700... He's even still driving it!

Glad to know my avatar can evoke such emotions

I do however think it was very kind of her to let her lunch sit next to her.
