Hi all,
I have 95 RR LWB and wondering if it is possible to get rid of the rear resonator and install flowmaster or soem other brand mufflers on my car?
I was looking at Borla cat back exhaust system and that is too much and need to replace muffler but somehow, performance oriented muffler, not OEM.WHat will fit?
Most of the retailer on the web offer a mid muffler(the big one) and a two piece section with a rear muffler. British Pacific has a good deal on a set up. I am sure that Atlantic British or Rovers North has some too. It is not a difficult install. The catch there is whether or not you have a completely stock system now or if it has been hacked. Check out these links:
I have a flow master mid muffler with the BP exhaust and rear muffler. I had a local shop install it with all of the stock flanges and hangers so I could remove and replace just as a stock muffler. I really like the way it sounds and most people do too. It is still quiet but with a nice deep rumble. With the rear muffler gone there would be a marginal increase in flow for a much louder exhaust. Just my $.02.
I dont remember the exact size, I do recall the number "50" in the parts info. I remember that they refered to it as a SUV muffler. Maybe a V50 or a C50. One of the reasons I like it is because it gets better clearance then the stock style mufflers. Another is that it is WAY more durable in addition it is better flowing.
FLOE52557 2.50" IN (C) / OUT (O): Flowmaster 50 Series (SUV / Performance) Muffler $113.41 BUY
I checked underneath. The Center in, Offset out is correct. And, though I have not had my eyes calibrated, it looks to be 2.5" in and out. If anything I would go up rather than down in the pipe size, so maybe a 3". Sorry I am not more specific. Call BP and ask them what size the pipes are for the exhaust, they will know.
I really appreciate you checking these for me. I am going to check on the diameter and get one from flow master.
I am planning on taking the rear muffler(resonator) off and weld on straight pipe and add stainless tip to it. My muffler needs to be replaced and it is a good time to get this done.
Had a rear Flow on my 88 RR. The sound is good but on the freeway it will drone. It will almost put you to sleep!.. I have been told by a Mustang buff that the Magneflow is a better muffler as far as sound goes... the performance is probably equal. One thing i would do is try and paint it with high temp paint before you mount it, because where they weld it it always rusts, including the factory welds...

I had my rear muffler/resonator (whatever it is) ripped off last weekend while out playing around - the approach angle was a little to steep
SO now all I have is a pipe stickin out just past the rear hanger! So what to do? The sound is actually OK not something obnoxious that I can't live with (wife actually has no idea yet!! )
So WWYD???? Any ideas? GO to AB and buy the rear thing again? - just bolt on a pipe with a chrome tip? Put a cool sounding resonator exhaust tip?
Ha! Ha!
Actually, I just purchased Borla cat back exhaust from ebay. It has 5k miles on it and stainless steel muffler that AB sells for $800.00. I got it for $300.
I do not believe this kit has the rear resonator or muffler. SO, I am assuming it is okay to just connect straight pipe and add nice stainless tip to it!
What was ripped off mine was a BORLA. The pipe just went straight into it, with a tailpipe sticking out of it. Pretty simple.
I think I will have issues when I go for my vehicle check/inspection. In VA they do them once a year, and I figure the bloke will see it as missing?? It doesn't really sound/look that bad though.
On my 88 RR I ran a flowmaster (series 50) in the rear and 3 gutted Cats. It sounded a bit throaty but bearable. You can hear my RR on the Dweb Back East, it's the white one going up a hill in Wurtsboro.
I'm installing the Janspeed System (headers, y-pipe, etc) next week. I'll let you know how it goes.
